A Family's Mission to Serve Families

        A Step Ahead Pediatric Therapy was founded in 2000 by sisters Lisa Wagers and Teresa Rodgers, driven by a shared passion for helping families access the care they need. Lisa, a pediatric physical therapist with First Steps, witnessed firsthand the challenges families faced when their children aged out of the program—especially the long drives required to continue therapy. Teresa, a registered nurse, pursued her MBA to complement her healthcare background and expand her impact.

      Together, they recognized a significant gap in pediatric services within their community and decided to take action. Combining Lisa’s expertise in therapy with Teresa’s knowledge of business, they launched A Step Ahead Pediatric Therapy with a clear mission: to make high-quality, family-centered therapy services more accessible for those who need them most.

     That same commitment to serving underserved areas continues to guide the practice today. In 2024, inspired by the growing need for therapy services in the North Vernon community, Jessica Wagers, the Clinical Director of A Step Ahead, opened a second location to expand the reach of their care.
