Rebecca Morone M.A. CCC-SLP
Children give me energy and always put a smile on my face. I have lived and worked in Columbus, IN as a licensed and certified Speech/Language Pathologist in Columbus for over 30 years. My husband, Tom and I raised our 2 children here and now spend time traveling between them to see our 6 grandchildren, camping and bike riding. My very first job out of college was at Developmental services in Columbus. I realized the joy of working with adults, infants and preschoolers with special needs gave me. I quickly became aware and learned multiple ways to help someone communicate, whether it be through gestures/signs, pictures, voice output devices or speech. I have worked in a variety of settings since then gaining extensive experience serving mainly children (birth-age 5) diagnosing communication delays and disorders secondary to many other disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, deaf/blind, down syndrome, brain injury, apraxia, and dysarthria. My main goal in becoming a First Steps provider years ago and still today is to help parents and caregivers become successful teachers to their children. As a parent/caregiver learns effective ways to interact and encourage their child's communication skills, they become empowered and can take advantage of all the daily opportunities to improve their child's interaction and communication skills. I try to create a very open atmosphere between families and myself, as I know parents are the ones whom know their child best and are truly their child's best teacher. I am always respectful of families' values and decisions they make regarding their child's treatment. I enjoy being part of a team, as a child makes significantly quicker progress when everyone is helping the child acquire a new skill and generalization of the skill can take place. I feel it is vital to understand what another discipliine is working on and help carry over those skills as we are treating a "whole" child.
